Sorrento — Here We Go

There's a particular kind of excitement that comes with a trip you've been circling for a while. Sorrento has been on the list ever since we pulled into Naples on a cruise a few years back, squinted at the coastline and thought — we need to come back properly.

Well, properly starts Monday.

My wife and I fly into Naples — which feels like diving straight into the deep end, Naples being Naples — before a private transfer takes us along the coast to Sorrento for a week. First time in the town itself, though Italy and I are old friends at this point. We have a method: use a cruise as a sampler, find the places that pull at you, then go back and actually spend time there. It works. This is proof of it working.

On the agenda — Capri, Herculaneum, some longer walks, a lot of good food, and whatever Sorrento decides to throw at us in between. I'll have the Fujifilm XT-5 glued to my hand as always. My wife will be three streets ahead saying "come ON" while I'm trying to frame a shot of a doorway. She will then return home, look at no photographs whatsoever, and in approximately six months ask why I haven't made a photo book yet.

This is our system. It works for us.

For the first time I'm also taking video seriously — phone on a little handheld tripod, no promises but we'll see what happens. Possibly YouTube. Possibly just footage of my feet and some very shaky panoramas.

More soon. Probably with better light than we get at home.
